Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI Agents Frequently Asked Questions
Microsoft 365 Copilot works much the same way your favorite AI chat platform, like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc., work. What makes it special is that it is built upon a custom version of OpenAI’s GPT-4o LLM optimized for business use and with a focus on security and Enterprise Data Protection, ensuring that your proprietary information is never used to train the AI model or accessible to anyone outside your business.
What makes it even more useful in the workplace is that Copilot’s AI features are available in your favorite Microsoft productivity apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and so on.
Microsoft 365 Copilot costs $30 per user per month, paid annually.
Microsoft Copilot Studio is free to use to create AI agents, but there is a consumption-based cost for the usage of their AI agents. There are two pricing models: Pay As You Go or a Prepaid Message pack.
In the Pay As You Go model, the cost per message (unit of consumption) is $0.01. In the prepaid model, you can purchase a pack of 25,000 messages for $200 per month.

While OpenAI’s family of AI models powers both Microsoft 365 Copilot and ChatGPT (the default model for both is GPT-4o), the version used in Copilot is optimized with better guardrails and governance for business use. For example, Copilot uses EDP (Enterprise Data Protection), and your data will never be used to train a public AI model. It also natively and securely works with the wealth of information in your business systems.
ChatGPT operates outside of your business and, as such, lacks the capability to harness data from within your business.
